Moderator Johanna Posted June 29, 2008 Moderator Report Posted June 29, 2008 I've heard them called key posts, screw posts and Chicago screws. Tandy has them, of course. I like Chicago screws better than snaps for changing out buckles, especially if the buckle is heavy. Johanna Quote You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. - Mark Twain
Members sodapop Posted June 29, 2008 Author Members Report Posted June 29, 2008 thanks much luke & johanna...now i'm on the same page ;0)...the screws would be a better method/quality then snaps imo... darryl Quote Darryl..."Imagination is more important than knowledge"...Albert Einstein...

TomSwede Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hi Darryl! Just wanted to let you know that I've used my cheap leather belt for well over fifteen years with snaps and I've never experienced any probs with that. Two snaps seem to work ok and I've been in periods where I shifted buckles quite alot so it's been great for me. Heck, even the leather is looking new. I agree those chicago screws feels a lot more rigid. I'd propose both to my customer and let him decide. Russ Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 One thing to remember when using the Chicago Screws, don't skive the belt as much as you do with snaps or rivets. Quote
Billy P Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 I learned back in the day, the hard way no doubt, that a snap will come loose at a bad time and a chicago screw won't. Once learned the hard way, I tend to always remember, LOL. Billy P Quote Billy P SideLine Leather Co. Leatherworker.net/Forum
