Shpati Report post Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) I bought a Calvin Klein watch. The name of it is CK Biz Watch: Calvin Klein - Select Language I wore it out for the first time. I think it has a stain on the leather or the leather's finish might have been damaged. Therefore, I think some alcohol might have spilled on the leather strap, or I accidentally sprayed my cologne on it. These two things are some causes that I think could have removed some of the leather's finish. I already tried rubbing it with water, but that did not work at all. Pictures are on the bottom of the base, and I circled it with yellow. Anyone know how to fix this. I have some leather conditioner at home. One is clear and the other one is a black leather conditioner (Chelsea Leather Food). You think one of those would work? Any other recommendations. If it is a stain, I would take the chance of removing it with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. But I think some of the finish just came off. Here are some links to the pictures I took of the damage. http://forums.watchu...e-way-fix-1.jpg http://forums.watchu...e-way-fix-2.jpg http://forums.watchu...e-way-fix-3.jpg http://forums.watchu...e-way-fix-5.jpg http://forums.watchu...e-way-fix-5.jpg Edited April 30, 2012 by Shpati
Sylvia Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Well, if it were me.... I would Deglaze redye refinish Look for Fiebings or Angelus Deglazer then dye with "OIL dye" allow it to dry for at least 24 hours, buff, buff, buff... until you see no more black on your rag... then finish with a clear finish. DoubleC Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Hi Shpati. I'm not an expert on anything but decided to try and help because anything I tell you isn't going to make it much worse. Black is the hardest color in the world to work with. I had a brand new bridle set I bought that came where part of the leather wasn't covered in black. I used a black dye on it for two weeks and then burnished it afterward and it kept turning dark brown. I finally used black acrylic paint on it watered down, a couple light coats and then sealed it. Another technique you could try on it is called vinegaroon. If you do that you'll never have to worry about the top finish wearing off because it goes through the leather. You take white vinegar and a piece of fine steel wool, put them in a jar with the lid lightly on, and let the vinegar work on the steel wool. It 'rusts' it and breaks it down and for some reason that turns leather black. If you were going to do that then I would suggest the alcohol to remove as much of the old protective coating (which obviously it doesn't have much) before dipping it in the home made dye. I am putting a picture of a piece of leather I dipped in my solution on to show you how well it works. I had the letters dyed green AND had put a coat of resist on them and the vinegaroon went right through it, just a hint of green left. But the solution took at least a week to get to this point (because I didn't use fine steel wool) so it's not a 'today' fix. I hope this helps. Sylvia Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Just a note: Vinegaroon will ONLY work on VEG tanned leather. (It reacts with Tannins) Since you don't know the origin or type of leather... I would avoid that technique.
PL01 Report post Posted April 30, 2012 It won't do the watch any good either if it's not neutralised properly.
busted Report post Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) The easiest and fastest fix for this is to buy another watch band. By the time you finish investing in the products necessary to transform it back to black you will have wasted the money for a new band and you still will not know if it will work. my 2 cents.
