Members jk215 Posted May 22, 2012 Members Report Posted May 22, 2012 Ive been using the standard lacing pony from Tandy and its a piece of junk. Falling apart and cant even fit my longer projects in the clampable area. What do you guys use? Where did you get it? Ive seen pictures of old school saddle clamps but cant find one anywhere online. Members Mijo Posted May 22, 2012 Members Report Posted May 22, 2012 I was using the Tandy lacing pony and I agree it's crappy. I recently started using Sheridan leather's colt stitcher and it's a major step up, IMHO. It's jaws are wide, thick and well made. Even better it has a wood screw clamp that affixes to any table, which provides better ergonomics than the lacing pony. It's the best $65 I've spent. Quote
Members jk215 Posted May 22, 2012 Author Members Report Posted May 22, 2012 Going to look that up right now. Thanks! Quote http://shop.makesupply-leather.com - Custom and Stocked Acrylic Templates
Members Kustom Posted May 22, 2012 Members Report Posted May 22, 2012 I use a "Li'l Dude". I bought it used, but it might originally be from Weaver. I know some people that love the "sit-n-stitch". http://www.grandpaspastime.com/Pages/SITNSTITCH.aspx Quote
Members jk215 Posted May 22, 2012 Author Members Report Posted May 22, 2012 Just put in an order for the Sit-n-Stitch. Looks like exactly what I need. Quote http://shop.makesupply-leather.com - Custom and Stocked Acrylic Templates
Members Buddha Jones Posted May 23, 2012 Members Report Posted May 23, 2012 I made my own... granted I only do watch straps, works like a charm! I did cover the top pieces with leather as to not damage what I am working on at the time. Quote
Members Blak Smyth Posted January 7, 2014 Members Report Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) Waiting for a Sheridan Colt Stitcher to arrive. The price has increased to $80. Edited January 7, 2014 by Blak Smyth Quote
Members Fowlingpiece Posted January 7, 2014 Members Report Posted January 7, 2014 A traditional English upright saddler's clam. Quote
Members Blak Smyth Posted January 8, 2014 Members Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Colt Stitcher arrived and works great. Looking forward to using it more. Only complaint is that the knob and bolt get thread wrapped around them often. I might remove them and make a leather belt to hold the clam shut. Edited January 8, 2014 by Blak Smyth Quote
Members Rayban Posted January 11, 2014 Members Report Posted January 11, 2014 I bought this one at Tandy about 20 years ago....it's simple but by no means junk. I used it daily til I started machine stitching 4 years ago. I've had to replace(improve) the hardware but other than that, it's held up very well, and it's all I've ever needed to get the job done......but I'm not a saddle maker. Quote Raybanwww.rgleather.net
