So what are some of the things that you carve on non-western holsters like molded/formed holsters for automatics. Traditional floral designs seem more suited to revolvers. Geometrics, figures, etc??? What are you carving/tooling on custom holsters?

Ideas? :dunno::whistle:

Regis,

I may try border stamping on a holster and possibly go from there. I think full blown tooling may work better on a lightly formed verses a wet pressed, fully boned holster. I think a finely tooled pattern may become distorted during the wetting/forming process. I've never tried it so I don't know for sure. I've seen some real nice western and sheridan style tooled holsters displayed with Colt 1911's,Sig Sauers and Browning Highpowers.

Luke I think your on the right track with real nice border and edge treatments for the auto's, most are worn concealed or semi hidden under jackets etc. except for the basic black duty holsters. I have been real slow to do anymore holsters, must be the weather and feelin poorly lately, but Regis I also am very interested in what others ideas are. Seems to be not alot of room left for carving after stiching, moulding, straps & snaps and such.

Here are but a few:

You might consider putting an exotic skin on the holster. It oftentimes makes for a nice accent/contrast and really dresses the holster up:

Those pictured above are all genuine exotic skins - stingray, alligator, shark, ostrich, elephant trunk and anaconda.

That's easy. I'll take the the holster that the lawman STI is in WITH the STI. :thumbsup:

Tucker gun leather does some stamping on his modern holsters. You can checkout his designs at http://rlcompanyusa.stores.yahoo.net/ststav.html. Might give you some ideas to go with Kevin's.
