Ferg Report post Posted September 10, 2012 I have two of them. One is nearing 60 years old the other is probably about 45. I file the anvil now and then, otherwise I have never done anything to them. Don't bother with the cheapies. ferg I need a new rotary punch and was looking at the Osbourne 155, is it worth the money or are there better ones availble? dirtclod Report post Posted September 10, 2012 If you have a buffing wheel it wouldn't hurt to buff the tubes. If you don't they will stick in the leather till they slick up.
KAYAK45 Report post Posted September 10, 2012 Dirtclod: I am setting here laughing at you first answer, which was perfect. "YES". LOLOLOL!
J Hayes Report post Posted September 10, 2012 If you have a buffing wheel it wouldn't hurt to buff the tubes. If you don't they will stick in the leather till they slick up. Thanks for the tip, I'll polish them all, and your first reply was awesome! Jeremy
dirtclod Report post Posted September 10, 2012 I like the single tube ones the best. But they cost a lot more in the long run.
Horrrk Report post Posted September 10, 2012 Yes Dirtclod..that hardly counts as a post..lolol I've typed more by my elbow hitting the keyboard.. Haha! Regards Phil
J Hayes Report post Posted September 11, 2012 I like the single tube ones the best. But they cost a lot more in the long run. The single tube, 153, looks to have a bit deeper throat and the tubes appear longer than the ones on the rotating 155. Am I correct? Undoubtedly the single tube is stronger. Hmm, single tube may be the best as I really only use 2 sizes on my cheap punch anyway. Jeremy
Denster Report post Posted September 11, 2012 Springfield Leather carries an import that is visually identical to the Osborne but at half the price. It is excellent quality. I liked mine well enough that I bought a second one so I could have one on both benches.
HellfireJack Report post Posted September 11, 2012 Craftool's Pro Rotary is virtually identical as well and is on sale right now on Tandy's website for $
dirtclod Report post Posted September 11, 2012 The single tube has a 1 1/2 inch reach and the rotary has a 1 3/8 inch reach. If i was going to just use two sizes of punch's i would get two and not have to change tubes.
J Hayes Report post Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) I bought the 155, works good but the finish on the tool itself is rough, not highly polished as it says on the Osborne website. Any one else have one that's actually polished? Mine has vise marks on the anvil jaw. Jeremy Edited October 4, 2012 by J Hayes
