Tools/supplies In Germany?

Recommended Posts

I've recently moved to Germany and would like to try my hand at some sheaths and whatnot. The problem is I can't find any craft shops or stores that sell leather crafting tools or leather either! Anyone know where I can look? I've checked locally and online (amazon.de, Google.de) and came back with nothing!

Bingo! Thanks! One other question. Ive heard 8-9oz veg tanned leather is a good starting point for a sheath, what should I be looking for at a German leather supplier (like the gentleman in your link)?

Hi, the stuff you should look for is "Blankleder".

9oz would be 3,6mm. They have proper leather in the thickness from 3,5-4,0mm for about 63€ per square metre, for the best quality, down to 52€ per square metre. They normaly have 4 different qualities.

They might be a bit pricier compared to the other companies in Germany, but well worth it!!

I was speaking about these guys http://kobel-leder.de/

Cheers,

Marcel

Hi Dutch,

I also buy leather at Kobel Tannery, if you are ever in Hamburg or north of it. Give them a call and you can pick your leather from their storage. They also show you around if you like. If you don't mind a few blemishes, ask for their " Untersortiment Blankleder Hälse" , sort of half shoulder piece. They are their cheapest leather and great for small projects.

Suppliers: I never bought at these shops, yet

expensive, but hight quality

I buy here sometimes, because it is close to me. I prefer to look at the items I would like to buy

Hi there,

I can recommend kobel leather too. Best I used so far. For tools you can also give the guys at Bear gallery a call (bear gallery.de). They will send you a Tandy catalogue and a price list. They have all the Tandy stuff plus some great other tools (at thei website) plus fiebings dyes and leather. Great people to deal with.

Lederkram and worring leder have been mentioned already.

Wolf-borger-messer.de is building some outstanding round knifes.

Lederhaus.de has got a wide variety of leathers and tools too.

There are many other small online shops, but I don't think you will find anything there, that you can't find in one of the mentioned shops.

Good luck

Jonathan

Excellent! Thank you! I shot the bear gallery guys an email hoping they could send me a catalog. Hope they understand English because I'm still learning German. Matter of fact my language school starts next week! Thanks again!

Don't worry, if I remember correctly, mr. Befriend of bear gallery is a Dutch who spent several years in USA and Australia before he settled in Germany.
