Members teamroper55 Posted October 2, 2012 Members Report Posted October 2, 2012 Hey y'all. I've only done a few projects and these have only been basket stamps. I really would like to learn to carve and I want to learn Sheridan style to begin with. I was wondering what would be the best book to purchase to learn this. I know there are "how to carve" books out there but I would like to know how to design and make the entire layout for say a large area project. The books may already cover this, but I want to be sure. I want to be able to make one of a kind works instead of being limited to tracing a specific sized pattern from someone else and not be able to change it. I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere, but I haven't been able to find much yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated and thank you to everyone who has already shared their knowledge on here. It has really opened my eyes to the correct way of leather crafting. Quote
terrymac Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 "Sheridan Style Carving" by Bill Gardner and Clinton Fay is the holy grail as far as I am concerned. The next book I am buying is the new one written by Bob Parks (Hidepounder). Knowing his skill and artistic ability, I am sure this book will compare with the first one I mentioned, and if you find a post of his, it has the information concerning his new book. The Sheridan style book is available at Tandys or a number of other places Hope this helps, Terry Quote

Members teamroper55 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Members Report Posted October 3, 2012 Thank you both for the advice. I will be purchasing both. I have already been admiring Bob's work. Can't wait to get his advice too. Quote
Members tntsl Posted October 5, 2012 Members Report Posted October 5, 2012 I have both of the books mentiond and two or three others on floral layout and design. I'd say Sheridan Style Carving and Bob Park's book are my favorites. They both contain great information and great pictures to illustrate the things that are discussed. Quote
