DoubleC Report post Posted November 8, 2012 Kevin, what a great idea for chap stick. Very Cool!!!!! Cheryl
Tree Reaper Report post Posted November 8, 2012 Thanks Cheryl; It's a nice snug fit so when you remove the chap stick the other end of the stick stays in the case. When I get a minute I'll mold a couple of the outer cases and send them to you to play with. Kevin.
DoubleC Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Thanks Kevin, will make it easier to find now that I'm carrying it all the time. We're having out first snow and the case will help keep it with me. Cheryl
LederRudi Report post Posted November 10, 2012 I like it! Nice, clean work! How did you mold it? Which thickness is the leather?
Tree Reaper Report post Posted November 10, 2012 Thanks Leder; The leather is 5 oz. The mold itself is made from cedar wood and a router bit was used to make the channel in which the leather is pressed into. I can use one piece of leather and cut two separate cases from each one. The leather is soaked in water, worked into the mold then a plastic plug is placed on top of the leather. A plywood top sits on top of the mold block and is pressed down using a shop press. It takes about five minutes to set it up and press it. I've made different sizes for different projects, here's another for a screw driver bit case. LederRudi Report post Posted November 11, 2012 Thank you for responding, Kevin, and for the eleborate description of the process. I like the crisp precision which shows in the bit case. And I'm scanning ebay now for a press... Rudi
