Members brianfromoregon Posted December 10, 2012 Members Report Posted December 10, 2012 I over-oiled a belt (neatsfoot). Now it's heavy and I belt he oil will seep out when warmed. What can I do to get it out? Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted December 10, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted December 10, 2012 Blot it much as you can .. and wait. Quote
Chief31794 Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 If it's soggy with oil you may not get it out. I have never had one to dry the oil out, I did this once some time ago, wound up throwing the piece away. The oil doesn't evaporate so it is in the leather and I don't know of any way to get it out. I always oil very lightly since that day. Chief Quote
Northmount Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 Do a search. There are a couple threads here about the same problem. If I remember right, burying it in a bag of cornstarch removes oil. Takes a few days. Tom Quote
Members DoubleC Posted December 10, 2012 Members Report Posted December 10, 2012 can you just wash it? With detergent and water? I know it may mess with the carving some but maybe not much if you're careful. Then if you can go over it again with an alcohol dye....that dries all my projects out so much I have to condition them. Sorry that's all I can think of to do. Cheryl Quote
Members oldtimer Posted December 10, 2012 Members Report Posted December 10, 2012 Bury it in potato starch and this will remove some oil. Quote
