Members Chris Meyer Posted January 6, 2013 Members Report Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Greetings everyone, I am trying to make a ID holder/magnetic money clip. I have everything I need, except that I have been unable to find a source for ID windows with thumb holes cut into them. The thumb hole comes in handy when you need to remove your license from the case. I have clear plastic that I can use, but I'd really like to have a thumb hole window. I have searched the forum, the internet, and my local craft stores, but to no avail. If anyone can provide a source, I would greatly appreciate it. Below is a picture of the kind of window I'm looking for. Thanks. -Chris Edited January 6, 2013 by Chris Meyer Quote
Members Spincycle Posted January 6, 2013 Members Report Posted January 6, 2013 Forgive me for my ignorance but couldn't you just cut the window in the vinyl yourself? If your cut is clean and well rounded it wouldn't rip. You could use a large oval punch. Quote
Members Chris Meyer Posted January 6, 2013 Author Members Report Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Yes, I could cut the thumb hole but, as can be seen in the photo, there is a lip around the hole to keep it from tearing. I suspect they are using a heated oval punch to make the holes, but I don't know for sure. Online, I have found quite a number of ID wallets with the thumb hole feature, and the cut outs all appear to be the same. This leads me to believe that either the makers are buying the plastic pre-punched, or there is a source for heated oval punches. If I could locate either the pre-punched windows or the correct oval punch, then I'd be all set. Edited January 6, 2013 by Chris Meyer Quote

Members GlenH Posted January 6, 2013 Members Report Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Try Black River Laser (blackriverlaser.com). I had them make me some templates for ID badges, and they threw in some clear plastic for me that was already cut to size and had the stitching holes. The plastic is a lot thicker than what I'd been using (that is, it's stiffer) so the oval hole in the middle shouldn't need that little reinforcing ring. Edited January 6, 2013 by GlenH Quote
Members jayjay Posted January 14, 2013 Members Report Posted January 14, 2013 http://www.ohiotravelbag.com They have them in the Ohio Travel bag catalog (P212) page 88 but it looks like their is no hole punched you might be able to call them to see if they have with holes. Quote
Members Coltrex Posted February 23, 2023 Members Report Posted February 23, 2023 Looks like this thread was from back in 2013. Did you ever find a source for either the oval stamp, or premade center cut windows? I've been looking for these for a long time, and have yet to find them either. They are used on so many commercially made wallets and Id holders, I'm really surprised they are so difficult to find. Quote
