First Timer (New To Tooling)

I draw and paint a lot, am learning to tattoo, but wanted another hobby. I picked up a starter leather tooling kit and decided to just jump in. This is my first project and I am fairly happy with it. Could've been better, but was trying to keep quiet in my apartment. Building a new workbench now in my garage so I can do it out there. Let me know what you think!

Very nice...I always thought that a tattoo artist could easily slide into leather work. Looks like you're on your way!

Looks very nice. Good clean lines. I'm in the same boat as you with being in an apartment. It really sucks not being able to work late into the night. So far, nobody has complained, but it can only be a matter of time. I'm lucky i'm on the first floor though. I have a tile floor in the kitchen that is over a cement sub floor. I must admit in my quest to be quiet yesterday, I was laying on the floor with my piece of marble sitting on a stack of mouse pads. It made things pretty quiet, but a bit uncomfortable.

Only thing I would suggest is working on beveling technique....try to walk the tool and keep from getting "chatter" marks. Other than that it looks really good.

Thanks a lot guys!!! Glad to get such good feedback here. I'm on the road for two weeks moving but will back on it as soon as I can.

Yah the beveling is pretty chattery I noticed in the close up picture. Hopefully with my new work bench and the proper light and mallet I can get a smoother turnout.

yeah, it looks like you did the same thing I was doing at first - mallet, lift, move, mallet, lift, move. Think of it more like that tattoo needle making a steady jack hammer motion up and down using your fingers as a shock absorber. Let the mallet/maul take care of the up and down while you just worry about the side to side movement. That's the best example I can give. Other than that it does look really good.
