benlilly1 Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Decided I was tired of sticking my stamps in a 1" piece of styrofoam. So this weekend I made a tool holder out of a 6x6 piece of cedar 3 ft. long with 97 holes. I have empty holes but hoping to fill those up soon.

Sir Derrin Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Very nice! What spacing did you use on the holes?
WScott Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Love home made stuff, good for you Those extra holes won't be empty long
benlilly1 Report post Posted March 5, 2013 First 2 rows are 1" apart for my smaller handled tools. 3rd row 2" apart and they are 7/16 holes. 1" holes in the back for holding my other hand tools. I couldn't keep my work space picked up so this was really needed. Thanks for the comments!
Double U Leather Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Looks very nice. I've got a tool rack made out of an old yard border log. However, the tools I use most I put in the cheap lil plastic rack that's easier to reach. I also don't keep my shop picked up worth a hoot, and consequently the tools I use most frequently are never in either rack but just laying on the table. When I start a new project, then I put 'em all away and scatter 'em all out again as I progress. I envy people like you who are organized in their work area. My shop, desk, etc., are vertically filed. What I am working on most recently is as the top of the stock, and things that have been a few weeks old are a couple inches from the top...LOL. It's a wonder I can get anything turned out. Oh well. I really like your tool rack. It's looks very functional and very eye appealling. Good work. aguilerag Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Looks great. I need to do something like this too so my tools just arent rolling all over my desk.
benlilly1 Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Thanks everyone!! DoubleU that is exactly how I work...all tools spread out on both sides of me. Hopefully this will keep me more organized. I might put the stamps I use most right in the middle for easy access. I have a special spot for this holder...hence the size 6x6x3' for a future topic. I got this cedar on Craigslist for $5 so the cost and my labor makes it cheap and custom.

benlilly1 Report post Posted March 6, 2013 KurseD, 3 coats of poly. It could have taken more. It really soaked it in. I didn't have my spray unit set up so I brushed it.
