Members wlg190861 Posted March 5, 2013 Members Report Posted March 5, 2013 I am interested in making horse harness from mini to draft pulling. I was wondering if anyone knew of the best kind of leather to use. Thank you Dan Quote

Members lazyd Posted March 6, 2013 Members Report Posted March 6, 2013 I agree with dirtclod. Harness leather. Either black or russet. Good Luck-----------Bill Quote
Members fivewayswelshcobs Posted March 6, 2013 Members Report Posted March 6, 2013 I would use harness leather but I would buy a harness back not a butt because most butts are only 60 inches long and many harness straps need the extra length that a back gives. Harness reins are traditionally made from brown leather with no edge stain as the black in the past would shed dye so staining the coachmans/drivers gloves. The best oak tanned harness leather in my mind comes from Bakers in Colyton Devon uk Quote
