Where Are You Getting Quality Horse Hide For Your Holsters?

Recommended Posts

I am looking at trying some Horse Hide but I want to be sure I order a better quality hide. I really like the looks of the hide and have seen some nice rigs here on the forum (Josh, Lobo and others).

Who should I contact??

Thanks in advance!!

I've only just begun playing with leather and have got my horsehide from Zack White Leather so far. You can also email Tannery Row for prices and availability.

Hey Rick, I got mine from Springfield Leather. They used to have it pretty cheap, around $12 per piece and when I was there a few weeks ago what they had was more like $24 per piece. The girl helping me said the cheaper stuff they had before was a lower grade and that the more pricey stuff they have now is generally nicer.

Good luck!

Josh

I was getting mine from Springfield Leather up until they ran out of 7/9 oz. Its tannery run from Horween's . Very nice stuff. Around $20-$24 per strip.

I just got some in from Maverick Leather out in Petaluma, California. I was desperate for some 7/9 oz natural veg horse strips for my OWB holsters and wanted to give them a try. They also get their horse butts from Horween's. These are seconds and very nice. I was hoping to get some of the first quality horse butts but they are out right now. Same quality as Springfields. I believe I paid $15.00 per strip.

Josh I bought a couple strips of Springfields $12.00 butts awhile back and it was rough but not to bad and was able to get a holster out of it. I bought about 20 pieces of the $24.00 butts a couple months ago and it was way nicer and worth the price. I was able to get 2-3 holsters out of each piece.

Thanks, I have heard of ZW but not of Tannery Row. I will look them up!
