Members Pioneerglm1 Posted March 26, 2013 Members Report Posted March 26, 2013 Hello, I'm new here and need some help. I am looking for a stitcher for heavy duty sewing. I am sewing 2 layers of 10 - 11 iron sole leather and 2 layers of suede. The total thickness is right at 3/4 of an inch. We have been running 3 American straight needle machines but they are worn out and will not handle the work any longer. Tried a Union Lockstitch, too tempermental. Looking at a Landis 16 or a Campbell Lockstitch but not sure they will handle it either. Will the Adler 205 work? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote

Moderator Art Posted March 28, 2013 Moderator Report Posted March 28, 2013 If you like using linen thread, the Campbell is a good fit. If you are just edge stitching, the Landis 12 is also a good fit and if you keep your eyes open, one can be had very inexpenisivly (I have 2, one for black and one for white thread). I also have a Campbell which is also very very good. If you are using poly or nylon thread, a Cobra or Cowboy will do well too. Art Quote For heaven's sakes pilgrim, make yourself a strop!
Members Pioneerglm1 Posted March 28, 2013 Author Members Report Posted March 28, 2013 Hello Art, thanks for the info. After doing research I have bought a Campbell lockstitch machine. Connie was great at setting it up for me. I also found a Landis 16 that is working as well. Thanks again! Quote
