I posted yesterday for the first time asking any feedback on which sewing machine would be good for me. I didn't get one single response. Does anyone out there have any info on which one to buy? I sew a lot of double layer 5-6oz leather and sometimes go as thick as double 12 oz leather. I have done research on Techsew 5100, Reliable MSK-1341, Cobra 4 and latest ones I reasearched are Toro 3000 and Sewpro. I want to make sure these machines aren't too strong for light leather work because I do mostly light to medium but I do sometimes use heavy leather. Please help

All you need to do is talk to the dealer you want to buy from.When sewing leather it is also good to know what thread size you want to use & you do mention wanting to sew 10-12 oz & then up to 24 oz & then mention heavy leather how heavy will that be?And what thread size?

Thanks for the response. I'm more interested in knowing which machines work best. All the machines I mentioned can do all the stuff I need but I want to make sure that the stitch doesn't come out too thick and rough when sewing finer leathers. I would like a machine to do both light and heavy. It looks like the cobra 4 does that but would love to hear experiences with the different machines I have posted. Thanks again

Learning curve of adjustments for your machine and correct thread and needle choice

I would like a machine to do both light and heavy.

2 machines can ease the frustration and time adjusting and Cobra 4 and Cowboy 227r

It looks like the cobra 4 does that but would love to hear experiences with the different machine

LOVE the Cobra and have a consew 227r with a cobra speed reducer and sevro motor

Talk to the dealers who help support this site and find one whom you are comfortable dealing with

Most go beyond just selling a machine in terms of customer support

I have a Cobra 4-25 and Steve is tops in before and after the sale support,

I've also dealt with Dob Kovar and very happy with getting what I needed from Toledo Sewing

Thank you Greystone for the information and I do feel more confident now. Thank you J.Hayes as well and I will definitely look at Cowboy but I have spent a lot of time/research on Cobra 4. Also, love their skiving machine and might bite the bullet and order both. I will though out of curiosity, look at the Cowboy. Thanks again

I have a cowboy 4500 and it isn't really meant to sew watch straps but it will easily sew anything else.

The biggest problem with sewing small leather goods like a watch strap is the hole in the plate is too large and the leather will get pushed down inside the hole.

You can buy a plate with a narrow slot but you lose the feed dog.

I use a Cobra 4 Dream Machine I have nothing but good things to say about this machine

For light leather you need a smaller light weight machine...for stuff you mentioned you will be needing a horse like a Cobra or the real nice Cowboy machines....most likely you will end up with two machines.

I have an Adler 105 and it will do 2-3oz leather...barley....but will quit on me over 22+ oz or so...

Most all machines can't do it all....thats why most of us here own 2 ore more leather sewing machines!!
