Is there a Stamp like this?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is a stamp available in the truck mud flap girl silhouette thing? Like the one pictured below? Looking for one for a piece a friend wants. He wants this damn picture like obsessively stamped all over the project..... :head_hurts_kr: Any information would be welcome! :)

simply because for right now he wants alot of them on his project, and I was thinking about using them on Deck cases that I am putting together for some craft shows coming up. figured it would be easier than doing a carving on each case

Jarl, I know your new but I have to agree with Luke try the inverted carving.Making a stamp is not really cheap and if you do this enough you will be asked to do alot of designs so are you going to get a stamp everytime. Size your picture on the computer and you can do one or many. Once you get the hang of it, it goes very quickly.I do this all the time, and my customers love it and it looks more professional.Dave

You know, I wonder if you couldn't etch the end of a steel rod to make a stamp. Some of those South American guys that post over on TKN do some amazing work with nail polish and acid (making 'Spanish' style blades).

Of course, that would be easiest on a smaller stamp, because you don't have to go very deep and you wouldn't notice slight differences in depth.

Make a stencil, cover the exposed area with nail polish (or something along that line), making sure to protect the rest of the steel that you don't want etched as well, then etch the design.

Jarl,

If it is very small, it would be hard to tool consistantly, especially if he wants a lot of them on the piece. Too big, and it would be pretty time consuming. I would contact one of the tool makers and get one made. Even on one large project, the time savings and consistancy will pay for that stamp probably, and you'll have it later for other projects to start paying you back. For small sizes a delrin rod stamp may be the way to go. If it needs to be as larger size you could have a press plate made. I hate to quote someone else's prices, but you could muddle around freehanding for a few hours, and not be as consistant as a maybe $60-80 stamp or plate. Here is a link to Jeff Mosby at Grey Ghost - Jeff Mosby. I have two makers stamps from him, and have seen a recent custom design silhouette stamp he did that was good. As also was mentioned, there are a couple guys on the forum here on the forum doing these as well. Chime in guys - a chance to sell.

I need to get some stock put together so that I have things to sit down next to my buddy at the Cherokee Nation table with :)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, and it really should be examined: Is this image copyrighted? We had a pretty long thread about copyright infringement a while back, and it's worth reviewing if you missed it. I've seen the image on lots of trucks on the road, and every time, it's been on an accessory for that truck. That means the copyright probably belongs to the company that supplies these accessories. Do take the time to check into it before proceeding with the design, just to be sure you don't step on somebody's toes.

Haha, yeah I am aware of copyright the copyright issues, I will most likely be drawing up a fresh one I just used an image like the one I eventually wanted so people would get the idea. Thanks for bring that up though its good to see that someone had that in mind :D

Jarl,

If you are still interested in a stamp for the sillhoute girl let me know size and design and we'll give you a quote. I can be reached at <front_line42@yahoo.com>. We have made stamps for several in the forum-TomSwede, UKRay, Jbird, etc.
