Hillbilly tim Report post Posted July 23, 2013 I'm a tool nut, period. So while recouping from some knee surgery I decided to order a new toy for help with the holsters and sheaths I make. I decided I needed a hand with my burnishing. While I do a good job by hand burnishing, this could only improve things. I contacted our resident burnisher maker and ordered one. I requested a direct motor mount version with multi-sized coves. This is what I got in the mail today: Georgous, well made tool, cant wait to make it into the shop to set it up and use it! More accurately varieties. they are available in many different forms or "frames". you can find them in disposed of dryers and some washers and dishwashers and air conditioning/HVAC blower units. The big thing is the motor RPM and shaft diameter, horsepower isnt really important in this application. 1/4hp up to 1 hp would be fine. look for the common 1/2" dia shaft size with at least 1 1/2" length. You want a 1725 rpm motor instead of a 3250 rpm so it isnt too fast causing burning, at least thats my understanding. rotation direction doesnt matter as you can position the motor as you need it. Another place to find new ones is burden surplus sales online or at farm supply stores like tractor supply, rural king, or johnstone supply. there are many others but thats a few. Got a friend that repairs appliances or air conditioners? give him a ring first. Got a bench grinder? you might check the speed on that but, most are to fast. More questions just hollar!
