AndyL1 Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Hi all, I had a recent commission request to make a bag similar to the one in the attached photo. I generally use firmer veg tan for my cases so I don't know what weight/ type of leather this one is. To me it looks like maybe a 3-4oz veg tan that is fairly soft and bendy. He wants it undyed so it will gain its own patina. Any ideas what leather it is and a link to purchase? Thanks in advance for any help. Members DoubleC Posted August 29, 2013 Members Report Posted August 29, 2013 Hi Andy. The leather looks to me to be at least 5-6 oz. And I buy most of my supplies here http://springfieldleather.com/ Cheryl Quote http://www.etsy.com/shop/DoubleCCowgirl
Members Jazznow Posted August 29, 2013 Members Report Posted August 29, 2013 Hi Andy Looks like 2mm to me. Softness of the leather is a question of how much oil has been added in the tannery. The owner of the tannery where I buy my leather told me that they put more oil on half sides and whole sides, than on necks or backs. That makes the sides softer but less suitable for carving. Maybe you can just ask at the place where you buy your leather if they have some soft leather. Best Jonathan Quote
