First Ostrich Skin

Recommended Posts

Got this for an excellent price. Now question is what am I going to make. Suggestions??? Haven't worked with any exotics yet or done any inlays. I guess there is only one way to learn.

That is one fine looking skin!

Hand bag?

I guess it would depend upon how big it is.

So how big is it? Sq. ft.?

How thick? It looks pretty supple.

Luck you, I've been wanting to get ahold of some ostrich leather myself.

could always make a nice narrow dress belt. Wallet, magnet money clips, something small to get an idea of how workable it is..

Congrats on getting the ostrich. There are a world of things you can do once you learn to handle it, and decide how you're going to do your edges.

This piece measured out at 16 sq. ft. I would say it is somewhere between 2 to 4 oz. but will have to measure it to know exactly.

It will definitely be making a wallet. There are so many different sections and grain patterns to work with in this. Almost going to be hard to make that first cut. Almost being the key word.

Nice, I have never seen a full skin like that. Boots come to mind. But maybe a wallet with an Ostrich inlay.
