ikewineb Report post Posted October 29, 2013 Like most everyone, I come to the sewing machine section for advice. I'm thinking seriously about a new machine. I only know what i've read here. The Techsew 3650HD looks like a good deal on a machine. The only thing I really see lacking is a walking foot. Does anyone have any feedback on that machine? I'd be using it to mainly sew motorcycle bags (2 layers of 8oz), holsters, wallets, and belts. I've never used a leather sewing machine before. Again, like everyone else, I'm not trying to spend a fortune on a machine. My thought with this machine is that it could handle all the heavier task and I could still do some hand sewing on smaller projects until I could afford a second machine better suited for lighter leather. Unless, of course, you guys think this machine might be able to handle the lighter stuff also. I appreciate any input.

Wizcrafts Report post Posted October 30, 2013 The 3650 is a bottom feed only machine. Its capacity is 7/16 inches under the foot. Thread-wise, it has needles in sizes meant for #138 through 415 bonded thread. Most people use #277 bonded nylon with these machines. Because it is entirely bottom fed, the teeth will leave deep marks in the bottom layer. If bottom appearance is important, those marks will need to be rubbed out manually. The throat depth is 10.5 inches to the right of the needle. The throat plate extends quite a bit to the left, making it difficult to sew shaped items the extend downwards. Accessories are very limited for this class of machine. All machines in this class are basically built the same way and have the same limitations. ikewineb Report post Posted October 30, 2013 Yeah, the marks on the bottom would be an issue. Do you think a cb227R cowboy would be better suited? My question with this machine is that the specs say up to 207 thread, but the description says 138. I'd like to have a rolled edge guide also.

As mentioned earlier in this thread you should probably be looking at a walking foot machine. For wallets and belts you should consider the Techsew 2700 which uses up to 210 thread. We have a swing down roller edge guide and flatbed table attachment available. If you want one machine that can sew everything (wallets, belts, holsters and more) take a look at the Techsew 5100. Feel free to contact us any time if you need some advice! Ron Edited October 30, 2013 by Techsew Ron
