harley45 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 I've been making a Wild bunch rig for my 1911 off and on over the past six months as time allows to use as a hog hunting rig I can just strap on when I exit the jeep. I think I may have an issue though. Do most guys add some type of device to keep the holster from sliding back and forth on the belt or will friction against my body hold it in place? I have the belt done and mag pouch but thought I better ask before I started the holster. Thanks, Eric
chiefjason Report post Posted December 12, 2013 Maybe this will help. I had a buddy that wanted a rig to throw on over his pants, coat, whatever to go check his barns. This is what we came up with. There were 3 sets of stoppers on the belt. The stopper was a 3/4' wide piece of 6-7oz leather. I punched a hole in the center and one on each end. Then punched a hole in the belt. Then I ran a Chicago Screw through all the holes.
Dwight Report post Posted December 12, 2013 A "true to form" Wild Bunch rig will not be a buscadero, hanging below the belt, . . . but will rather be a holster that allows the belt to go through a large loop in it. If you form your loop very closely to the holster, . . . and not make it any wider than enough to get in on the belt, . . . you should not have a lot of holster movement once it is strapped on. But if you want to make it unmoveable, . . . a Chicago screw through the back portion of the loop and through the belt, . . . it really ain't gonna move. May God bless, Dwight
Josh Ashman Report post Posted December 12, 2013 Harley, Keep the holster loop tight on the belt. This will make it so the holster doesn't move around and also keep it from pulling up with the pistol when you draw. I've made several wild bunch type rigs with Mexican loop holsters that function very well. I try to make it so the belt will barely fit through the holster and everything stays in place just like you'd want. Good luck, Josh
camano ridge Report post Posted December 12, 2013 On many odf my Wild Bunch holsters I put ears or wings that the belt threads over. When the belt is snugged up it pulls the wings againt the hip the wings form against the hip keeping the holster in place. The one pictured below has a muzzle forward cant but does not have to have. if you are doing a mexican loop type in the area that will fold behind the belt just cut the pattern a little bigger to make the ears or wings it will work the same way.
