Members Number11 Posted January 20, 2014 Members Report Posted January 20, 2014 My name is Josh and I live In Newfoundland, Canada. I have just discovered the world of leather work and I can't wait to get started on my first project. I've watched a ton of videos and i'm pretty sure what tools i'm gonna need but i'm not entirely certain where the best place to find my leather is. How much should a beginner need? Say I want my first project to be a guitar strap. How much should I pay for said leather? How do I know when i'm being ripped off? Is it more expensive to get my own hides tanned? My father does a fair bit of hunting, is it worth my while to turn around and get his skins tanned? Thank you so much for your time. Quote
Members TXAG Posted January 20, 2014 Members Report Posted January 20, 2014 Ahh...Newfoundland... I bet I'm one of the only people in Texas that pronounces Newfoundland correctly. (Vacationed in St. John's for about a week a couple years ago...) Welcome to the forum... Quote
electrathon Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Hello new guy, There are a lot of variales to you questions. The one that is pretty much consistant is that it is cheaper to buy leather than to have your own leather tanned. Aaron Quote
