So I have a makers stamp made by Black River Laser, which is awesome. However, I have only been using it with a mallet and a hefty handle.

The initial impression looks great, however after a few hours the impression goes away and does not hold.

I am using this on Horween Chromexcel leather.

Is there any way to make my impressions clear, crisp, and lasting?

Help please!

Wrong leather for embossing.

Try veg tanned or Herman Oak police gear leather from Springfield.

You can try to lightly wet the leather from behind and allow it to settle in. Stamp it and some of it will remain, but as Tree Reaper says.......this type of letter will not keep the maker's stamp on the leather forever.

Good question Austin. I have heard somewhere that if you gently heat a stamp [it would have to be metal, not sure what yours is] that you can get an impression that way. I am sure there is a little more to it than that, would guess maybe pressing until cooled? At any rate, I would sure like to know how get our mark on that leather also. Any truth to this method? I would try it, but my stamp is not metal either. If this does work, I will be getting one though. Thanks to you all.

If the stamp is metal, verify that it is safe to heat it first. Mine is magnesium and if I would heat it too much it could burst into flames.

Sounds funny in theory, but in reality I like where I live. :)

Chromexcel will only get a good impression with hot stamping. Do a search for hot stamping. Derilin, plastics etc will not work for hot stamping. Magnesium will ignite at about 500C or 800 F, once it is ignited it will burn at over 3100C. Don't try to put it out with water.
