Pontius Report post Posted July 6, 2014 Summer is here and I'm in need of a fly swatter, so I thought about making something like the one in the included picture I found by googling leather fly swatter. I would like to hear what you think is the right type of rivets, or other kind of fasteners for making a swatter like this? I would like the rivets to be flush on the wood side so that they don't damage anything. I was thinking using Chicago screws and counterbore in the wood, but would like to know if anyone knows if there are better and/or simpler ways? Pontius Report post Posted July 6, 2014 Copper rivets are simple and easy to do. Tom Yes, was thinking about that. Do I need an anvil for setting them?
Studio-N Report post Posted July 6, 2014 the picture looks like it used regular double cap rivets. Probably 1/2"?
RavenAus Report post Posted July 7, 2014 Yes, was thinking about that. Do I need an anvil for setting them? You certainly need something solid under them. Either an anvil or something metal. They take more work than regular rivets as you have to peen the end over
