Tallbald Report post Posted July 29, 2014 I won't take up much time but as I do when I have been done kindnesses on other forums, I wish to thank everyone who contributes to the vast body of knowledge here benefiting a new person to the craft. This and another leather forum at the CAS site are filled with helpful, non-condemning folks who, as I told my loving wife Penny, freely share methods, tips and tricks that help those in need of knowledge. From the reading I have done, 200 years ago knowledge was jealously guarded and sharing was only done with new members to the craft IF they were agreeable to preserving the secrecy that surrounded a field. Perhaps that was how they preserved their job demand. Great stuff here, and great members. Thank you. Don.
Sabine1 Report post Posted August 23, 2014 I'd like to add my agreement to Tallbald's post. I'm still getting my feet wet and I have experienced great patience already. I thank each of you for your time and sharing your experience. The gift of paring down years of experience to pass on to others is one of the beauties of the economy of wisdom. Hi Im Joe Report post Posted August 23, 2014 I agree that this is probably the most friendly and genteel of the forums I have been active members on. The roadbike and photography and golf forums are just so different from this one.
billybopp Report post Posted August 23, 2014 I have to agree with all of the above, and add my thanks for the many folks on here that give advice and opinions. It is invaluable, and one of the best learning sources imaginable. Even though opinions sometimes differ, there is always something to be learned from them. The sense of humor that often comes with these posts is quite appreciated too. It reminds us that life is short, and nobody gets out of it alive so we should enjoy it as much as we can. It's probably not said often enough, but ... THANK YOU TO YOU ALL. Bill
JREESER1 Report post Posted August 24, 2014 Many thanks to the questioners, answerers, contributors, moderators and the advertisers who always go the extra mile to help, even with a competitor's product. And a special thank you to Wiz,
shtoink Report post Posted August 24, 2014 Many thanks to the questioners, answerers, contributors, moderators and the advertisers who always go the extra mile to help, even with a competitor's product. This is exactly how I feel about this place and have difficulty finding better words to describe my sentiment. The helpful calm that exists here boggles my mind when you take into consideration of the size of the community, the wide variety of view points and interests, and vast array of subjects present here. I have seen smaller communities fall apart for dumb reasons and even left several places quietly due to poor moderation, yet the vast majority of the people here all want to give you a high five, help you answer your questions, and get better at what you are trying to do. Simply amazing!
Handstitched Report post Posted August 24, 2014 G'day Tallbald, Over ten years ago,I started off as a beginner, not knowing a single thing about leather. But thanks has to go to the only library book on leather' Leatherwork For Australians, by John Vader & Michael Redwood, ( in my small country town in the Central Wheatbelt in Western Australia ) , then the yellow pages, later the internet, and indeed, this website. This forum is very community minded & very helpful for a beginner or the advanced, and theres no such thing as a 'silly question' on here. The questions you ask could save you time money ....and headaches. Ten years on , my hobby has now turned into a 7 day per week small business, and I am now also a Judge for the leatherwork section at a major show in WA. I will always turn to this website, for ideas, inspiration, have a chat or if I get stuck on something. All the very best. HS
