Red Cent Report post Posted August 4, 2014 When you flex a piece of leather (make a U out of the piece) inward (finished side) and it wrinkles (permanently) , what is the problem with the leather?
JLSleather Report post Posted August 4, 2014 That could be more than one thing. My 'best guess', loose grained leather. The top grain is separating from the inner fibers (top stretching more than the bottom). I think your word "permanent" is correct -- nothing to be done at that point. camano ridge Report post Posted August 4, 2014 What part of the leather is it Red? I tend to find more of that kind of wrinling in the belly area. Because you are getting that on a piece does not necassarily mean you will get it on the whole side or shoulder.
Red Cent Report post Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) The piece came from a double shoulder and it does sound like what JLS said. And the piece was a little low on the shoulder. Is this something I can expect once in a while. The picture was just that and didn't think of showing wrinkles. However, if you look close at the holster you will see them. Wooops, pictures coming. camano ridge Report post Posted August 4, 2014 You can get a bad piece of leather I supose where all of itcan be loose grained. My experienc has been that I find that problem mainly in the belly and neck area. Try a piece more toward the back area of the shoulder and see if it behaves the same. Red Cent Report post Posted August 4, 2014 Can't see the wrinkles very well. Most are under the holster band.
Dwight Report post Posted August 5, 2014 I started to get sarcastic, . . . say if the leather was as old as you and me, . . . ain't no wonder it wrinkled, . . . but you know I wouldn't do anything like that. But seriously, . . . I've had a couple of bouts with the wrinkle monster, . . . wish I had a definitive answer. I do know it seems to happen more with thicker leather than thinner. AND, . . . the one place I have whooped him, . . . is in the front inside of my lined holsters, . . . I do the John Bianchi skive on the inside piece, . . . takes them thar wrankles right out of the holster front. May God bless, Dwight
JLSleather Report post Posted August 5, 2014 No skivin'. No jivin'. No wrinklin'. Just solid unworked HO leather in 'n' out.

George B Report post Posted August 27, 2014 Mostly for me when I get too close to the belly and almost all the time in the neck area. And I've had it happen both with HO and W&C.
