JustGregL Report post Posted August 15, 2014 Hi All, This is my first post so forgive if I'm covering old ground again. I recently got a Singer 29K51, that was a barn find. The price was great, even with the shipping I still came our under $125. This machine definitely needs some restoration and while a few parts are missing it is relatively complete. My first question: There seem to be a few suppliers of parts old and new on line. Does anyone have a recommendation or a warning of who to do or not to do business with? Next Question: I have down loaded a lot of parts lists and catalog reproductions, but an actual repair manual or guide doesn't seem to exist. Does anyone know of such a guide, or have one they want to sell? Thank you in advance, GregL

Constabulary Report post Posted August 15, 2014 Don´t know where you are from but I had good experience with College Sewing in the UK. I bought all parts for the restoration of my 29K71 from them and all work fine and the prices are reasonable compared with Ebay. Especially the needle bar has a very good price. https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/Singer29K,29USewingMachineParts Most parts for the 29K71 will work for the 29K51 as well but you have to compare the parts numbers. this was my restoration project: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=56079#entry360060
Constabulary Report post Posted August 15, 2014 BTW - this is a quite simple machine. I have never touched one before I got mine and I have stripped it down and reassembled it w/o problems. The only thing you really have to adjust is the hook timing but thats explained in most of the manuals you can download somewhere.

CowboyBob Report post Posted August 15, 2014 I don't want to burst your bubble BUT the gears that run the shuttle are not available for this machine & haven't been for at least 34 yrs that I know of,alot of the other parts will interchange, I just thought I'd mention this before you dump much $$ into this machine. These gears are similar to the ones in the 29K53,55 & 56 which you might want to buy for parts if you see any. They have real fine teeth on them & break pretty easy.We do have most other parts in stock.
