hidepounder Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Anyone know a source for "makers plates"? I looking for a silver or maybe stainless manufactured plate to mount on my higher end projects, in addition to, my makers stamp. I could be stamped, engraved or cast. Any ideas? Quote
King's X Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Beautiful work by the way! I believe there are some manufacturers in the Leatherworkers Journal. Give me some time and I'll get back to you here. Greeting from Austin, TX ATX Quote

esantoro Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Kevin referred me to The Engraver in PA. Call and ask to speak to Barbara--very nice and helpful. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...art=#entry99666 Ed Quote

hidepounder Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I had gone to several silversmiths originally....Montana Silversmiths, Hansen's, Silver King and a few more...they all wanted $1000 to $2500 with a minimum order...it just wasn't feasable for me...but I'll pursue the plate makers...maybe stainless will be more affordable. Thanks again, Bob Quote
Members somewhereinusa Posted July 11, 2009 Members Report Posted July 11, 2009 I might be able to supply something, I hadn't really thought of this use before. I don't have time right now, but I'll try to come up with some ideas. About how big would you need? They can be gold or silver in color. Pretty much any design you would want. If I can make it in Photoshop I can print it. For examples see here for ideas. One like the large one in the middle has been tested outside for a couple of years with no ill effects other than water spotting. I will have to check with suppliers to see if there are any suitable shapes available. They will not take much extended abrasion(they are plated after all) and they will scratch. If anyone is interested I'll work with you. I can tell you right now price is less than $50 including Photoshop and probably less depending on size. Dick Quote
Contributing Member Jordan Posted July 11, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted July 11, 2009 I noticed in the 2009 Tandy catalog they offer a makers plate service, probably a special order from a sub contractor that works through them. Quote

Members rookie Posted July 11, 2009 Members Report Posted July 11, 2009 Hey Bob, I know B-K used to be in town. I think they moved to Missouri. I don't if they are still in business. They made them in nickel silver years ago. If I can find any info on them, I will send it to you. Justin Quote
