Schno Report post Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) It's been a while since I posted to LW.net. Here's something that came off my bench recently. My license plate has read WTCHKNG for years. This was nabbed from Tolkien's work. The Witch King of Angmar was the leader of the Nazgul, or Black Riders. When the time came to make a bib for my tank, it didn't take long to figure out what I wanted. The Eye of Sauron was an easy choice. Thanks to Three Mutts Customs on the tips for construction! I just finished listening to a biography of Tolkien (while, coincidentally, doing leatherwork...) and apparently Frodo was "Bingo" for a long time. Heaven help us. Ha, that was one of the first I found at my local library after finishing up The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. I loved it then, in my teens, but I don't think it held up (as far as my enjoyment) as I aged. I tend to re-read a lot of books, and I think the last time I went to reread those, in my twenties, I wasn't as big a fan of some of the dialogue. Then again my favorite is probably Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy and many people who have started it claim the first book starts too slow and is boring for them. MonicaJacobson Report post Posted September 9, 2014 If you guys are fantasy buffs, you should try "Way of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson, "Gentleman Bastards" series by Scott Lynch, "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss, and the "Powder Mage" trilogy by Brian McClellan. I read Tolkien when I was in my early teens, and these books may not be as vast in scope, but they're definitely clever, imaginative, and well written. I'll have to try David Eddings. kwelna Report post Posted September 9, 2014 LOL, only on this leather site will you see fantasy book sugestions and reviews. I read tokien as a teenager as well. It ws great. I really like the "banter" between the characters in the Eddings books. Any way lets let this rever back to the actual topit. I too am impressed in Schno's ability to carve in fine Elvish rhunes\script into leather. That must be due to a cross between the geek\nerd and leather worker in me.
