Adler 205

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have it on good authority that Durkopp/Adler has ceased production not only the 204-370, but the 205-370 as well. Those machines are being replaced with the 967 and 969 which by the way, are still not available and for a lot more money! In my opinion, Adler did this way to soon since neither machine is out yet and has yet to be proven in the marketplace.

My sources tell me the ECO version on the 969 will be selling in the $8,500.00 range! If anyone is looking for a 205-370, you had better get one as soon as possible.

Sorry to say that but this price is crazy!

No question that these are high end top class machines but the average leather worker or hobbyist will most likely not have the output to afford these machines. And I wonder how much the accessory feet will be. And I think you will not be able to repair these machines "at home" - you will have to take them to your dealer for a periodic maintenance or so.

Take the $8500 and visit Leather Machine Co. (or other dealers of your choice) and go home with a fully equipped shop - just as a comparisons.

I know the machines are different and the Adler has more features but honestly.... It´s crazy!

I would sooner drive to Texas in my station wagon and buy a fully rebuilt Campbell Randall high lift needle and awl stitcher than spend over $8500 on an Adler. I would still have money left over after buying the Randall.

I think, given enough time Adler will rethink this decision. The only market they can really appeal to will be the very large companies and corporations that have deep pockets. That said, there is an excellent chance they won't sell enough there to make it worth the effort to produce these high dollar machines. If, as Glenn pointed out, the 205 is dropped that market (the smaller leatherworkers and other trades that require this type of machine) will belong entirely to the clones. Should Adler decide to bring back the 205, it will be very difficult for them to regain that market share, without dropping prices to be in line with what the clones are selling for. Just my 2 cents.

A couple of other things I forgot to add. Both the Eco and Classic models of the 969 are direct drive, meaning the motor is built into the head. That price includes motor. You need air to run the foot lift on the Eco model as well as the Classic model. These machines only come in a 220 volt, not 110. So unless you have a dedicated 220 breaker and plug in, you will need a transformer to run it on 110 volt which means an additional cost. Transformers are not that expensive which is good.

I believe Adler is making a mistake by not keep the 205 out there for another couple of years until the 969 is established. Only time will tell who made the right call on the 205.

ADLER are not interested in the hobby guys like most on this forum.

I hope I do not offend Bob, Steve, Ronnie or others but if I was running a machine 8 or more hours a day, 6 days a week then I would buy the Adler. The Chinese machines are good but I am not convinced they are at full production quality yet.

Even dedicated saddlers rarely use the 205/441 class machines for more than a few hours per week and mostly that is at LOW speed which limits wear on load bearing surfaces.

I agree the clones haven't proven their worth yet. I personally love adler, easy to self service, clean and sews a wonderful stitch line. Yes expensive but I feel worth every penny. I also have a tandall. Quite nice too. But adler wins the prize due to many attachments on the market for multi applications.

I wonder if parts will still be available with so many on the market..
