Members JM Rhoades Posted October 12, 2014 Members Report Posted October 12, 2014 I've been spraying clear lac with an air brush, then finishing with fiebing antique and tan kote. It is a very nice finish, but I've noticed cracking around areaes where the leather must bend. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks Quote
stelmackr Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Try thinner coats or use a 50/50 Resoline/Water mixture in 2 thin coats. Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted October 12, 2014 Members Report Posted October 12, 2014 Had the same problem, switched to 50/50 mop n glo and water. Quote
Members JM Rhoades Posted October 12, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 12, 2014 resolene/water will block the antiquing OK? Then, finish with resolene or tan kote? Quote
Members JM Rhoades Posted October 12, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 12, 2014 Tried the resolene on piece of scrap.. seems to work but it is definitely a higher gloss finish. The tan kote seems to mute the gloss of the lacquer and leave more of a natural matte finish. Quote
electrathon Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) You are putting it on way to thick. I recommend wiping it on with a piece of sheep wool. Work it into the cracks and wipe away the excess. Edited October 13, 2014 by electrathon Quote
Members JM Rhoades Posted October 13, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 13, 2014 The air brush is spraying it on very, very lightly, much less than when I have used sheep wool. Maybe it is drying before it penetrates the leather well? Quote
