Randyc Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Is there anyway to clean my McMaster-Carr gum rubber holster press pads. I've thought about using alcohol, but I believe alcohol would dry out the gum rubber. I have some black dye stains on the pads that have transfered to my non black holster projects. Thanks Randy
$$hobby Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Im not aware of anything that would "clean" it and not attack the rubber. that gum rubber wants to draw everything to it. what i would do is get anothor or a couple more pads and keep them separate for use. or. i would try doing a test. get some food wrap (clear plastc wrap) and placing it around/over the leather and do your pressing. Im thinking the wrap may leave some witness marks, but who knows. you could make up a cheap/quick test holster to test this or use an existing boo boo. Randyc Report post Posted November 5, 2008 I'm going to go ahead and order another set of pads from McMaster Carr. Thanks for the advise! Randy
The Major Report post Posted November 5, 2008 An alkaline cleaner with butyl can be used to clean the rubber pads. try simple green.
