Double Mag Pouch Help

Anyone here have any advice for a new guy on how to build a leather double mag pouch? I want to build an open top design to hold two 1911 magazines. I have tried to design a few but nothing seems to be working out very well. Any advice? Or patterns you wish to share?

This is my favorite: Only two pieces of leather, . . . less than 100 stitches, . . . two snaps.

Oh, most likely you are correct about bad technique. However bad design also plays a big roll too. it is difficult to explain my past designs that did't work out too well, because I no longer have them, nor do i have pics. Basically I want to try and build something as small as possible that will hold 2 magazines. So I try to attach the belt loops behind the pouch, but its very difficult to sew them in this configuration because the belt loop stitches run perpendicular to the mag poch stitches and niether one can go through the other or it would prevent the magazines or the belt from going through.

Here's a design that has no stitching in it at all. It's made from a single piece of leather that's folded and held together with screws and t-nuts.

I built one where the east-west stitches of the belt loop ran between the north-south stitches on the edges of the pouch. I just kept the loop from going all the way to the edge. To attach the center of the pouch front and back I used one rivet in the center and one at the top, I dont remember but imagine I just put the rivet setter anvil between the loop and back of the belt. Sew the loop, then the sides, then rivet. Unfortunately I dont have pictures, I decided a double pouch was too big for what I wanted and cut it in half. As a double mag pouch it worked well though.

Another I did, better I think and will work for you. It's a single, but will double easily, just seperate your belt loop on the back into two loops, one behind each magazine. You can see I found a use for those belt ends that get trimmed off. If you ignore the bad stitching (one of my first pieces), the style is serviceable and easy.

If you want something small, look at this one, all you need is to add another mag to the side.

Sounds like you may be trying to put the belt loops on after you have built the pouch. Is this the case? If it is then I would suggest you plan out where the loops will go and put them in place before you stitch up the pouch.
