onegunred Report post Posted November 11, 2014 I am wanting to make some Tom Threepersons holsters for my handguns. Rather than wrap my gun in a plastic bag where can I find a aluminum (???) replica ? Thanks, Jerry
chiefjason Report post Posted November 11, 2014 See if Duncan's has one. I think they do, but can't get the inventory page to load. If you email them they will send you their current inventory. I bought a S&W X frame from them and it's a solid mold. http://duncansoutdoor.com
Riverdog Report post Posted November 11, 2014 While I'm fairly new at this most advice I've seen here and from people like Bianchi is not to worry about wrapping your handgun in plastic to wet form the holster or knife. I just make sure my handgun is lightly lubricated as it would be for storage, wet form, remove and wipe down with oil again. I've only made 20 or so wet formed items , but I've suffered no after rust on anything and I don't own anything but blued guns.
camano ridge Report post Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Does it have to be cast aluminium. The only manufacture of aluminum replicas at present that I know of is Duncans. They have a Red Hawk in their inventory but I do not believe they have a Blackhawk. Bunkhouse tool company has a resin Blackhawk holster mold. http://www.shop.bunkhousetools.com/Blackhawk-6-1-2-910.htm. Also check their ebay site duckcreektraders frequently they have the same items listed but a few dollars cheaper. Red Cent Report post Posted November 11, 2014 There are three iterations of the Blackhawk. The first one came out in the mid to late 50s. Was very close to Colt SAA size. The second iteration was a larger all over handgun. Produced in 72-73 the same time they introduced the large Vaquero. When someone talks about a hot Blackhawk load, they are talking about the 2nd gen Blackhawk. The new model Blackhawk (3rd gen) is back to the approximate size of the original. A new model Vaquero (2nd generation) is the same size as the 3rd gen Blackhawk. Having said that, you can get a NM Vaquero and make holsters for it, Colt SAA, and the Blackhawk. One difference is the tall sight of the Blackhawk.
