Tri-Fold Wallet

This is the first men's wallet that I've made. It is made of 2.5 oz. garment leather, and it is as soft as butter. Very nice leather. The inside pockets are pigskin, and the paper money section is lined with embossed polyester fabric, although you can't see the embossing in the picture. I used 12 oz. clear vinyl to make the ID window.

Thank you, Rohn. I decided, at the last minute sort of, to make wallets for my two sons for Christmas. But, as usual, I will keep this one for myself and make improvements on theirs.

The thin leather makes things a little more tricky because it is so stretchy and moves so much. I am pretty happy though.

Thank you, Monica. I actually copied the construction from my old wallet, which is falling apart, but you could have a look at Bosca.com for wallets constructed like this. I've started on the two for my sons now, and I hope to improve on them. What makes them difficult is that the leather is very thin and soft to begin with, and the edges have to be skived to roll them over. Skiving it causes the leather to stretch and get wavy, so it has to be trimmed after skiving. If you don't allow for that, the pieces will end up too small. I was afraid that was going to happen to me because I had to trim the edges more than once. I just like the soft leather and the bound edges for wallets better than stiffer leather and cut edges. But, I am going to make some like that as soon as I can find the right leather.
