Dog Id Tags

Recommended Posts

I have never stamped any brass or stainless ID tags before an was wondering if anyone can lead me in the right direction as how this is done, Do they sell a machine that will emboss them ? The kind of ID tags you attach to the leather on a collar.

Petsmart and Petco should have machines that will laser engrave them. My dog has one. I riveted it to the collar I made him. Might be easier to just figure in the price of buying one if you have a store close by. Not sure what material they use for the tags, but ours have held up well. Sometimes it's good to re invent the wheel, sometimes it's not.

Walmart also has a machine that does it for $5. To get a dog tag press you are going to be looking at somewhere around a thousand. Also army surplus stores have them

If you want to stamp your own, there are tags that are sold for jewlery making that are designed to be punched. You can get a set of 1/8" or smaller letter stamps to punch them.

Also, just a thought...I've stamped my own ID tag from leather and attached it a to collar I made.

Maybe some sort of mini cnc machine?

I know it can be very expensive to laser onto stainless steel and probably not worth it for doing just tags.
