TomG Report post Posted January 20, 2015 What dye? What color? How are you applying it? Are you diluting the Resolene 50/50 with water? Are you putting it on in 2-3 VERY thin coats and allowing to try for several hours between coats (preferably overnight)
Chief31794 Report post Posted January 20, 2015 The main thing I do to prevent rub off or at least minimize it to very very little is Buff, then buff some more, then take a break and buff some more. I use an electric car buffer with a terry cloth cover and buff it really well after letting it dry about 24 hours, then I apply 2-3 coats of either 50/50 resoline or 50/50 Clear Lac (cut with LCI thinner) depending on what dye application I use. But the main way to get rid of "rub off" is to rub it off and that's done by a lot of buffing. Chief

coreysyms Report post Posted February 13, 2015 Use black resolene or black acrylic to finish, watch SLC's video on dying black, at the 8:00 min mark they mention other methods. They talk about fading quite a bit, but they mention that the black won't stay color fast, IE crocking, and this is the method to use to get ultra black leather. Hey Austyn, I don't know much about leatherwork but I can definitely help you with this.... I know that Tandy doesn't have the best rep out there for dyes, but I recently discovered the Tandy Waterstain dye.....PLEASE do yourself a favor and try it...you will not be disappointed.... Here's what impressed me so much....I took some scrap leather and dyed it with the Tandy black waterstain......the people at the store told me let it dry 24 hrs then buff it....I waited about 8 hrs....buffed it, and noticed there was almost nothing coming off.....then get this.... I took the leather (before applying resolene finish) and held it under running tap water and tried to rub out the black......there was absolutely no dye coming off at all..........I have not found a better product for black than this.....and it just gets better when you apply the topcoat of your choice Again, I hope you try it out.....before, I was using the Tandy black eco flo stuff which was not good.....ran everywhere.....the Tandy black waterstain is an entirely different animal..
