Members Red Cent Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 Anyone ever heard of the term?"I haven't seen that from the WC I purchase. I also have them "plate" the leather. The way they explained it, plating compresses the fibers and makes the leather more stiff and dense. I haven't noticed any "mushiness" at all. If anything it's actually a little more toward the "really firm" end of the spectrum."http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=337238 Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 Is he talking about compressing it? Weird. Quote
Members Modad2010 Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 They also call it "holstering". The side or whatever piece your getting is rolled between two large, heavy rollers and is compressed. The same thing is typically done with veg-tan horse hide, helps to firm it up. Quote
Members camano ridge Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Modad beat me to it. Depending on who you get the leather from they call it either holstering or plating. Some processes use both heat and pressure to firm the leather. One thing to realize if you order say 8-9 oz and have it holstered/plated. You will get leather that is thinner then the original 8-9oz thickness. Edited February 11, 2015 by camano ridge Quote
Members Colt Hammerless Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 And sometimes the same person will use the terms "holster" "plate" AND "press" in the same conversation. Quote
