I've been asked a few times recently to design a back pack, I've searched around quite a bit for a base pattern, I've seen Tandy's and it's quite small and really pricy. I've designed most of the items I make myself, even with practice, I am still not quite at the skill level to design larger patterns, figuring out how to set up complex parts, lining holes up, etc. is just not one of my strong points yet. It doesn't help that I do not have a sewing machine yet and still do all my stitching by hand, which I enjoy and will always do, but for larger projects, more precisely, mock ups for larger designs, would be much easier with one. Anyways, back to the question!

That being said, at this point, I am looking for a decent base pattern for a back back and any leads would be much appreciated!

-Cheers, -Cheyenne

Also, sorry for the double topic post, I have tried, and have no idea how to delete it

I have not made a backpack before but would like to try. What weight leather would you recommend an what type leather to use.

I have yet to either, but I suppose it would depend on the style and what kind of use it will see. The type and weight of leather could really range on that part.

He said he used 5.5 oz oil tanned leather for his.

Go back to the picture in the thread, . . . then read down several posts, . . . lot more info there.

May God bless,

Dwight
