chapelstone Report post Posted March 27, 2015 I have been making 4" round and 3.5" square coasters. I am using 6-7oz veg tan HO. I am having trouble with the edges curling up after tooling. I wet them and weight them down while that dry and that fixes it until they get damp in use. Then they curl again. Will it help to sew a backing on them or is there an easier way make them lay flat? cgleathercraft Report post Posted March 27, 2015 I'd say double em up and stitch them together. Storing your leather flat may help if you have the space. Mine rolls terribly...should have seen the single layer mousepad I made.
Northmount Report post Posted March 28, 2015 Seal/finish them front and back to reduce the water absorption. Should help some. I second making them 2 layers. I did a small sample about 4x5" for a 3 ring binder cover. 7-8 oz front, stiffening material, and 3-4 oz back. Both sides sealed. Seems quite solid. All glued together and edges are stitched.
