OtisEllieLg Report post Posted April 4, 2015 Hello, I recently bought an adjustable heat embosser this is the exact model https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/155086026/heat-emboss-leather-tools-custom-leather I find when I use it it ends up burning the leather I am using veg tan and then the emboss just ends up cracking when the leather is flexed. I am dampening the area before apply the logo and still no luck does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to why this is happening I am getting quite frustrated with it and the manufacturer who sold it to me is really of no help. LeatherLegion Report post Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) It looks like the temperature can be controlled on that soldering iron. Try the lowest setting first and take it from there...same goes for the amount of time you are holding the stamp pressed against the leather. Lower temp but holding it press longer might give you the desired result Also before stamping your product try it on a similar piece of leather and see the result. I used something similar in the past ...I was more concerned applying even pressure then heat control. The set-up I have now helps with the even pressure ...but no heat control. I turn it on for about 1.5-2 minutes depending on the leather that needs to be stamped , try it on the same type of leather first and then apply the stamp on my product. SantaFeMarie Report post Posted April 8, 2015 Did the instructions say to dampen the leather? I'm pretty sure that when doing a hot wax finish on an edge with a hot iron you want it to be dry.
electrathon Report post Posted April 8, 2015 I do not have this one, but do have a hot press. Leather should always be damp. About 275-300 degrees. Less than 2 seconds contact time. Play with it from there.
