Stitching Pony With Tilt/swivel

More complicated than I thought it would be,but after a couple of failed attempts, I came up with this one that I think will do the job.

Still need to attach leather to the clamp faces, and waiting for the cam lever clamps to arrive from Rockler. Pine for the base and legs, oak for the clamp heads which are 6 inches wide. The heads use flush mount allen head screws into 1/4 x 20 t-nuts to allow for rotation. The base swivel is an old brass toilet seat screw (very thin head) as I didn't want to recess the base too much.

That tilt feature is a nice addition. I was thinking of making another one that sits on the floor and I hold with my feet as opposed to the one that you sit on so that I can tilt/angle the piece when sewing but the tilt feature seems like a easier idea. Hope you don't mind me stealing your idea.

One thing I did with mine that I built was to add a compression spring to the bolt shaft, that way when you release the cam lever it forces the clamp open.

I thought about the spring but was concerned about snagging the thread. Have you had any issues with that?

No problems with the thread catching the spring at all. I ended up drilling two cross bolt holes in mine. I use mostly the lower one because that way the bottom end of the Rockler cam clamp is covered by my leg so the thread does not get under it either. I also used a carriage bolt and counter sunk it so the thread cannot catch on the other side.
