celticleather Report post Posted November 19, 2008 I sometimes come across references to 'possibles bags', usually on US websites. If one assumes that a possibles bag is for carrying possibles, what is a 'possible'? Has anyone got a picture of a possible, or is that impossible? David Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Possibles bags are used for carrying supplies of blackpowder shooters, the bag can contain any thing you could possibly need for hunting. Dave
Johanna Report post Posted November 19, 2008 A smart alec told me that they are called possibles because getting by without them is "impossible". Just a possibility. Johanna
Luke Hatley Report post Posted November 19, 2008 A POSSIBLES BAG: ONE CAN CARRY ANYTHING POSSIBLE IN IT...... AS FOR BLACK POWDER AND GUN SUPPLIES THEY WOULD USE A "HUNTING BAG" IMHO. MY DECDUCTION OF 26 YEARS IN THE MOUNTAINS........
wildrose Report post Posted November 19, 2008 I'm glad for this post, because the pictures of the "possible bag" were the first time I'd heard the term at all, and I thought to myself: "well it looks like a definite bag to me!"

The one where people from as far away as Japan come to shoot and have fun dressed in old mountain man clothing. Cook over open fires and chat with friends as the flames dance till the wee hours in the morning. Or is it another Friendship In. somewhere I have never heard of. JohnD Report post Posted November 21, 2008 I agree with Luke"s definition. I used to read alot about primitive living and survivalism(?) and a lot of the authors would refer to them (possibles bags). Trappers and mountain men would carry them also. They can be used, as Luke said, to carry anything you might possibly need. Things that were found along your way are kept in your possibles bag, in case you find a use for them. Fire starting materials, tools and other such hardware. In the movie "Jeremiah Johnson", Redford's character carries one. My .02 John
