Members DEDHEAD Posted May 9, 2015 Members Report Posted May 9, 2015 Hi all, I'm really new to this but loving every minute of it. I recently made two California slim holsters from the Brazos Jack series and I am really pleased with my results. I would like to make a matching belt but I know absolutely no idea where to start. Could anyone recommend some resources, videos, books, websites? Like I say, I'm a 50 year old beginner and don't have all the tools or know-how. Always grateful. Quote

Contributing Member JLSleather Posted May 9, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted May 9, 2015 I've seen some of those videos for various reasons in the past. As a rule, I don't recommend u-tub for instruction. Browse those when you have hours to kill for no legitimate reason. Disagree? Try this... Decide what you want to know, what you'd like to see, whatever. When you see a video, write down what you know, that you didn't know before the video. I could go on, but do this and you'll soon figure it out yourself. Quote
Thor Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Very obviously you never chose the right videos to watch or you are a guy who knows it all... I agree that there are many useless videos on YouTube, but so is your post as it doesn't help the OP at all. You could have written nothing and the person would have known as much as before. Quote

Members Mongo Posted May 11, 2015 Members Report Posted May 11, 2015 My original "book" was Al Stohlman's How to Make Holsters. It's still available from Amazon for 12.99. Also search the Kirkpatrick Leather website and Mernickle Leather for examples. John Bianchi's DVD set was also a big help when I started. CAS City also has a leather section that has lots of examples of good cowboy leather. Quote
