indidana Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Hi all! I've got it in my head that I want to make a waist cinching belt. I don't need/want it as a waist cincher, I just really like the style. I have an idea how to go about it because it seems pretty simple, but I know I'm overlooking something. Any tips? Thanks! Quote
Members Red Bear Haraldsson Posted July 24, 2015 Members Report Posted July 24, 2015 Step 4. You're missing step 4... You're going to have to be just a leeeetle more specific about what you think you're missing. Pattern? Design? Leather? Tools? Edging? Dye? Finish? Hardware? I'll go out and say, the model you are using in the photo is top notch, got that part covered just fine. Give us something to chew over and you will likely find more help than you can shake a stick at. Quote
indidana Posted July 24, 2015 Author Report Posted July 24, 2015 Pattern- I made my own last night. I pulled out my Tandy guidebook that has belt directions and wen from there. Design- I'm drawing up a rose now. Leather- I used 8-9 oz as I felt like 6-7 oz would be too floppy. Tools- check. Edging- working on evening and smoothing them out. Dye- check. Finish- check. Hardware- I've got a center bar buckle to use until I order one I like better and am making my own keeper. I feel like the oval(ish) center didn't turn out too well. I've been working on getting it more even but I'm such a perfectionist it could take me forever and I'd still not be happy with it! My pattern was spot-on but transferring it to the leather I think distorted it a little more than I thought it would. I've got my center hole punched in as well as the buckle tongue hole. Quote
Members Red Bear Haraldsson Posted July 24, 2015 Members Report Posted July 24, 2015 Remember that you will always be your own worst critic. Take a page from Bob Ross (Joy of Painting), "There are no mistakes only happy accidents." I think you should go on like you are. Belt looks good and even, flower looks awesome. This ain't knitting, you cannot pull stitches out until you get back to the mistake. Do your best, accept what develops. It'll be fine. Looks great! Let's see it finished! Quote

Members MonicaJacobson Posted July 26, 2015 Members Report Posted July 26, 2015 Wow, that turned out way cooler than I thought it would, based on your question. I don't think you needed help at all. I like that there's a kid in the last picture. My kids always end up in mine, somehow. Quote

I think I asked more out if fear of doing something I haven't done before and wanted someone to walk me through it. Lol However, I am a bit of an impatient person and didn't wait for replies before I got started on it. These kids are always right there, in my face and in the way. But they're so dang cute! Quote
Members Red Bear Haraldsson Posted July 26, 2015 Members Report Posted July 26, 2015 I take all the credit for the bolstering of egos that did not need it.... shameful, tsk tsk. My kids are all grown and gone, empty nest CELEBRATION!! Of course, my granddaughter is about that size/age. Seriously. Very good job. Beautiful work. Miles and miles past me in carving skill (I hate you forever.) Huh? Who said that, Did anyone hear that? Hmm, strange. I like it, Monica likes it, you should like it, too. Excellent work. I look forward to your next project! Quote
