Members Austyn Posted August 31, 2015 Members Report Posted August 31, 2015 Ive been having trouble with sealing my dyes for some reason.. This is what I do Dye the leather with Fiebing's dye then I let it dry for 24 hours... Rub all the extra dye then seal with 50/50 res/water.. Let that dry for 24 then I do that again and I still get dye on my clothes. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Austyn. Quote
Moderator Art Posted August 31, 2015 Moderator Report Posted August 31, 2015 Austyn, After dying, rub vigorously with a rag (t-shirt) then buff with a brush (shoe) then rub with t-shirt again again. After the resolene, I would say to put a coating or two of Leather Balm (with or without Atom Wax) on and buff again. Art Quote For heaven's sakes pilgrim, make yourself a strop!
Members Dwight Posted August 31, 2015 Members Report Posted August 31, 2015 I don't use a Feibings dye that I do not first cut 50/50 with thinner. Black, I cut even more. You will still get the color, . . . but you will NOT have as much residue and rub off problems. I also suspect you may be doing a "too light" coat of the resolene / water mixture. Boriqua Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 If you have the means to spray the resolene that should eliminate the problem. I use about a 50/50 mix .. maybe a scootch more water and spray. When I applied with a sponge I think it still lifted the dye instead of setting it down. I havent scientifically checked but one I started spraying on the resolene I no longer had issues. Quote
