Softest Bridle Leather ?

I was wondering which if any, of the bridle leathers is the softest and most flexible than the others? Is there one with less stiffness? I'm sure that's just the nature of veg tan bridle but is one particularly softer than the others? I've been using W&C's bridle so far, and love it - but a softer version would be nice.

Or perhaps there's an alternative leather I should consider? Something that's vegetable re-tanned maybe? Thoughts?

I sometimes rub Angelus #101 light oil (avail in quarts or gallons) onto both sides of bridle leather straps to soften them up. This is a very light weight oil that penetrates where Neatsfoot won't. You can also try pulling the straps through a cloth soaked with Carnauba creme.

Thanks for that tip wizcrafts.. does this oil darken the leather at all? I'd prefer not, but would consider it either way ..

I recall reading a statement somewhere (at some point in the past) that a particular bridle leather had a more flimsy feel to it than others. But I can not find where I read that and/or the details. Seems like it was a european tannery but not sedgewick.

BTW - I'm not using it for making bridles.

Veg-Tan Calfskin would normally be floppier, right? Does anyone do a bridle calfskin.. or is calfskin just not going to ever get thick enough for them to bother?

I believe Wickett & Craig can provide softer bridle leather.

just taken from their website - 'Stake to Soften - $0.25 per sq ft'
