Members rosiart Posted October 27, 2015 Members Report Posted October 27, 2015 Love the colour of this leather. Can I ask what tool you are using for the creasing? I really like the depth you have achieved. Quote

Members rosiart Posted October 28, 2015 Members Report Posted October 28, 2015 Did you order from France or did you find a NA supplier? Quote

Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 29, 2015 Members Report Posted October 29, 2015 Nice. Is that the edge paint from buckle guy? Quote
Members thefanninator Posted October 29, 2015 Author Members Report Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Yes. Not sure if it's rebranded Fenice or not but I mixed black Fenice with it to darken it up. I'm liking the results so far. Edited October 29, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 29, 2015 Members Report Posted October 29, 2015 Ha, I was wondering how you lucked out finding a color that looked like a perfect color match. Smart. Quote

Members thefanninator Posted November 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) I finished the first bag and went ahead a did a second one with a few changes. Here is the first. Edited November 21, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members thefanninator Posted November 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Here is the second. I attached the zipper different on the second. The first had strips down each side with the edges painted and the second I did a folded edge and stitched to the inside. As you can see I also attached the rolled handles different. I got the gusset design from Hunio's Summer Bag post. Edited November 21, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members thefanninator Posted November 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 Side by side. I may end up changing the squared pocket on the second. Quote
Members 9tpi Posted November 21, 2015 Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 Beautiful work! Both handle designs are well executed. Quote
Members thefanninator Posted November 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Sorry about the poor photo quality. I think I have enough leather left to do a third. I learned a lot and I've got a few more changes in mind to make the next one better. Beautiful work! Both handle designs are well executed. Thanks! Once I get the bag where I want it, I plan on lining it and using some nicer leather. I've got a few tools to buy too. Edited November 21, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted November 21, 2015 Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 Chris, both of them are beautiful. What about a side view of the gusset on both bags? I like the pocket and the strap attachment better on the first one, but that's a matter of preference. Quote

I'll get a photo of the gussets soon, I've got some edge paint drying. The gussets and the body turned out better on the second one. On the first one the body was 3 pieces, front, back and bottom. I just used one piece for the second. The gussets on the second are folded correctly on the bottom and that made for a more ridged bottom and I lined the top edge with a thin slice of leather, stitched and painted the edges. The first bag was all 9 spi. The gusset/body seam on the 2nd is 7 spi. Edited November 21, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members thefanninator Posted November 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Side view of both gussets. The first bag is floppy because of the position of the pocket, the weight of all the brass and I failed to fold some of the "legs" under. The second gusset has the correct fold underneath and I lined the top edge. Edited November 21, 2015 by thefanninator Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted November 21, 2015 Members Report Posted November 21, 2015 Ni ce! Yes, I think I like the top/zipper on the second bag, better. Quote
