Just got started last night, but personally I like seeing the progression of people's projects, so here is mine.

How much of the strap did you fold over the d-ring and down behind the strap? How are you going to finish the top edge? Fold over or sew a binding over it?

I have about 1-1/4 folded over and skived down at the end to lay flat.

yes i will be finishing the top edge but I still have to add a strip around the inside. Both exposed edges will be burnished and edge painted etc.

Small update,

Next will be lining the interior (with phone and zippered pockets) and installation of grommets for the "drawstring"

lilways, this particular bag is just the leather folded over onto itself. How you place the piping on the bag and where you stitch in relation to it is what gives the illusion of it being cylindrical (as if tube or wire are inside).

Personally I don't like anything synthetic (tube, wire, polyester etc) inside my work. I just feel synthetics won't age the way the natural materials do; My own preference.

A bit of an update;

The body of the bag is assembled with lining, zippered pocket and iphone pouch (not pictured) as requested by my better half.

Need to finish the edge on the top of the bag.

Shoulder strap and handle still left to make.

May redo the "draw string" as there is a bit of interference through the eyelets.

Thank you, and you're welcome !

Thanks! Nothing crazy planned for the edge. Just burnish, sand, edge-coat, and a bit of wax. I just didn't have time last night.

Awesome~ I love how you do the lower construction!

Thanks very much.

Do you mind elaborating on this?

Im assuming the closer to the fold of the piping you stitch the more rounded it gets? What distance did you settle on to stitch the piping (4 oz leather piping?)

When you stitch the piping and panel parts together how much leather is inside (that you dont see) if that makes sense?

Hi David, the piping; I usually mark the distance of my stitch line equal to the thickness of the piping. For example,4 oz folded over onto it self (8oz) is equal to 1/8 of an inch. Therefore I mark my stitch line 1/8 in on the piping.

Inside the bag there is a larges excess that I later trim prior to turn the bag right side out.

Nice work. Your attention to detail is superb.

thank you very much !

I loved the piping, what is that technique? Did you use that to make the edges, where they meet, disappear?

The whole bag turned out wonderful.
